“Come and have breakfast” ~ Jesus

Nov 4, 2025

After Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, seven disciples—including Peter, who had denied Jesus three times—are fishing all night on the Sea of Galilee without catching anything. At dawn, Jesus (unrecognized at first) calls from the shore, telling them to cast their nets on the right side. They haul in a miraculous catch of 153 fish, their nets intact.

Exhausted and amazed, they beach the boat. There, Jesus has a fire going with fish already grilling and bread ready. He simply says, “Come and have breakfast” (John 21:12, NIV). The disciples, knowing it’s the Lord but too awestruck to speak, share the meal. Jesus takes the bread and fish, distributes them, and later reinstates Peter with the famous threefold question: “Do you love me?” This leads to Peter’s commission to “feed my sheep.”

It’s the third post-resurrection appearance to the disciples, emphasizing Jesus’ physical, resurrected body (he eats with them to prove it) and his servant-hearted leadership—even cooking for them.
